The Derry Walls are the largest ancient monument in state care in Northern Ireland and have the longest, intact circuit of ramparts of any of the remaining 21 walled towns in Ireland.
The Friends of the Derry Walls is a voluntary organisation whose mission is to give a voice to the Walls, raising ambitions for their care and presentation, driving public engagement with the Walls and ensuring that the Walls are fully exploited as a resource for educational, cultural and economic development. The Walls Friends are now looking for members to provide support in the form of:
- an annual subscription and by
- donating time, knowledge and specialist skills.
The Friends of the Derry Walls want to design, with Queen’s University Belfast’s Centre for Field Archaeology, a community intensive, large scale, archaeological dig on the Banking next year so that we’ll have the results in time for 2019, the 400th anniversary of the building of the Derry Walls 1619-2019 and our aim is to have 400 members by then.
If you are interested in becoming a Friend of the Derry Walls and want to know more about the benefits for members, download the Membership Form or contact the Coordinator via the form below.
